The Commission on the Chemistry of Volcanic Gases (CCVG) was founded as a forum for sharing and comparing knowledge of volcanic gas chemistry. Over the decades, research on volcanic gases has undergone a technological revolution, opening new ways to observe volcanic emissions and providing unprecedented insights into volcanic degassing and the processes occurring within active volcanoes.
Today, the CCVG brings together a diverse and international community of scientists working across a broad range of approaches and disciplines. Our members use ground-based and satellite remote sensing, in situ gas sensors, diffuse gas measurements, airborne observations, laboratory analyses and emerging technologies to investigate volcanic emissions.
The strength of the CCVG lies in this diversity. By bringing together researchers with different expertise, perspectives and approaches, the Commission provides a space to exchange ideas, share knowledge and develop new collaborations. Our community continues to advance the field through innovative methods and technologies, while working collectively to address the many challenges involved in understanding volcanic gases and their role in volcanic systems.
