Field Workshops

At the 1981 Congress of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth Interior (IAVCEI) the Working Group on Volcanic Gases decided to organize one or more field workshops in order to test and “compare the different sampling and analysing techniques in the same place at the same moment“.

This initiative started a series of workshops starting at Vulcano (Italy) 1982, continuing with 13 workshops held in 12 countries around the world (Italy, Japan, New Zeeland, Indonesia, Hawaii (USA), Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Russia, Chile and Ecuador) visiting a total of 35 volcanoes.
